COVID-19
The Aquatic Centre programming will evolve gradually, in accordance with government and public health guidelines. Citizens are invited to regularly visit the City’s website for all the latest information. Participants of Aquatic Centre activities will have access to locker room. Lockers, showers, saunas and hairdryers will not be available. |

Lifeguard, Instructor and First Aid Courses
Bronze Medallion (ages 13 and up)
Bronze Medallion teaches basic lifesaving principles. Candidates learn rescue procedures for both conscious and unconscious victims. Exams are given on the last day of the session therefore the last class will be longer. Mainly in English; course manual in English or French.

Bronze Cross (ages 14 and up)
Bronze Cross continues the lifesaving procedures taught in Bronze Medallion. Candidates are better prepared to assess dangerous areas and dangerous behaviours in order to keep aquatic facilities safe and to prevent accidents. Exams are given on the last day of the session therefore the last class will be longer.

Standard First Aid / AED (ages 15 and up)
The Lifesaving Standard First Aid course prepares the candidate to take on the role of medical attendant during an emergency situation. The candidate will learn specific first aid and treatment strategies to prevent further injury while waiting for the arrival of emergency medical services. The candidate is also trained to recognize signs and symptoms of potential danger. Please check dates and times below carefully as 100% attendance is mandatory.

National Lifeguard (ages 16 and up)
The elements of this lifesaving certificate are designed to help candidates develop the 4 main elements of lifeguarding: knowledge, judgement, physical ability and skills. While reinforcing the guarding techniques and skills acquired in the previous courses, this course improves the decision-making process enabling lifeguards to prevent emergencies and to intervene in emergency situations. Exam is given on the last day of the session.

Olympic Way Instructor (ages 15 and up)
Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice.
The Olympic Way Instructor course is a certificate program designed to give participants a solid foundation in the Olympic Way swimming program. This is a practical hands-on approach that teaches new instructors how to conduct a safe, fun swimming lesson at all levels of the Olympic Way program (emphasis is given to levels White through Blue). Candidates will be asked to observe 3 hours of Olympic Way swimming lessons throughout the 10 week program.
