2016 Olympic Games in Rio

Pointe-Claire divers give remarkable performances

The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, Morris Trudeau, is happy to congratulate Pointe-Claire Dive Club athletes on behalf of Pointe-Claire residents. Jennifer Abel, Meaghan Benfeito, Roseline Filion and Vincent Riendeau gave outstanding performances at the Olympic Games in Rio.

“We’re proud to see members of our Dive Club representing Canada at such a major event as the Olympic Games – and to see them excel as they did,” says Mayor Trudeau. “These athletes are models for our young people. They’re a source of inspiration for those who dream of meeting challenges and achieving excellence.”

Meaghan Benfeito won two bronze medals at the 10-metre platform: one solo and one at the synchronized event with Roseline Filion, who took sixth place at the 10-metre platform solo event. Jennifer Abel performed outstandingly at the 3-metre springboard synchronized and solo events, ending fourth in the world at the foot of the podium. Vincent Riendeau, participating in the Olympics for the first time, was 14th in the 10-metre platform semi-finals, a fine performance for this promising young athlete.

Dive Club head coach Yihua Li and assistant head coach David Bédard, themselves former Olympic athletes, are delighted to share the experience with these outstanding divers.

“Pointe-Claire is proud of these remarkable athletes,” says the mayor. “Their dedication to diving is truly inspiring for Dive Club members, and I hope residents will keep on encouraging them as they continue to give exceptional performances at the international level.”
