Contribution of the industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors to the collection of organic waste and recyclable materials

Since the summer of 2016, the City has carried out a door-to-door initiative to encourage the industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors to take part in various municipal collections as part of our vision focused on sustainable development and better waste management.

Since then, nearly 250 industries, businesses, and institutions have followed us and are actively participating in weekly municipal collections for organic waste and recyclable materials. Over 20% of targeted companies have joined the movement to benefit the environment, as well as current and future generations.

Like all residents, the industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors play a vital role in protecting the environment. Whether we participate at an individual, corporate, or institutional level, we can all reduce our environmental footprint with good waste management by properly sorting at source.

The participation of corporations and institutions will help us reach the government’s 2020 waste management targets. According to the 2016 statistics, Pointe-Claire is already ranked second on the Island of Montréal with the following results:

Materials Objectives 2014 2015 2016
Organic waste 60% recovery 41% 55% 55%
Recyclable materials 70% recovery 70% 74% 76%

Industries, businesses, and institutions can each receive up to 12 bins. To find out which materials are accepted in various collections, visit www.pointe-claire.ca/en/collections.
