Creation of a magical fantasy reading garden behind the Central Library
The City of Pointe-Claire is pleased to announce that a reading garden on the theme of magic and fantasy will be created in the grove behind the Central Library by the fall. Our teams are already at work to develop the site for children and adults to enjoy reading surrounded by nature.
The idea for the garden arose following the unfortunate death of an avid reader, Sara Hmouz, at the age of 22. The girl, who used to faithfully visit the library, hoped that her savings could contribute to one of its projects. Her family and the Friends of the Pointe-Claire Library added an amount so that the reading garden could be created. As Sara particularly enjoyed Harry Potter books, the City of Pointe-Claire teams proposed the creation of garden destined to combine reading and a fantasy world.
The entrance to the reading garden will be marked by an arch leading to an inviting place with strange mushrooms and logs for the youngest children to sit down on and dive into a book, while mysterious plants shelter ― Who knows? ― whole villages of invisible elves and gnomes! At the back of the garden will be a reading throne and logs forming Japanese steps. A few benches will be placed here and there for adults.
The work that started this week will continue until the fall, when planting will take place. For safety reasons, diseased trees will have to be felled. The road between Civic Center Avenue and City Hall will be closed throughout the work to enable the project to be carried out.
