February 24, 2021 – Provincial government update on the COVID-19 pandemic

Here is an update on recent decisions and actions by the Québec government in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The most important economic recovery in Québec

With the vaccination holding out hope of a gradual return to pre-pandemic economic and social activities, Québec Premier François Legault announced the appointment of a minister for the Economy responsible for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in order to stimulate what he referred to as the “most important economic recovery Québec will have experienced in decades.”

Mr. Legault believes that the pandemic will accelerate certain major economic changes and he wants Québec to profit from these changes, particularly in the area of information technologies.

“We have a trio in Health. Well, now we’re going to have a trio in the Economy as well, with Pierre Fitzgibbon [minister of the Economy and Innovation of Québec], Marie-Ève Proulx [minister for Regional Economic Development] and now Lucie Lecours,” said Mr. Legault.

The premier stressed the importance of training for the new minister because “it will be important to have people who are well trained and can support all of our entrepreneurs” for the coming economic recovery.

Before being elected, Ms Lecours was the executive director of Les Moulins’ chamber of commerce and industry.
