Lighting of the tree and special programming for all tastes and ages
The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, lit the tree in Pointe-Claire Village and launched a program of special activities during a virtual ceremony broadcast live on the City’s Facebook page, on Friday, November 20.
“In Pointe-Claire, we all care deeply about maintaining a dynamic and animated community life. Given the restrictions due to the pandemic, we’re holding three contests and bringing a new addition to Pointe-Claire Village, to entertain you, even at a distance,” said the mayor.
Citizens of all ages are invited to participate in a series of adventures and discoveries to suit all tastes:
- Holiday scavenger hunt in Pointe-Claire and Valois villages: Store windows will feature objects that you must find and photograph to run the chance of winning a contest prize. Take the time to discover what these stores have to offer and encourage local merchants. Go to the Pointe-Claire, it’s who we are for all the details.
- Wearable Art Contest: As part of the 2020 Artisan Show, participants can let their imaginations run wild and create a wearable art accessory using everyday materials. A random draw will determine the winners of a gift card from a local artisan boutique. All the information about the contest and the Artisan Show can be found here.
- Outdoor decoration contest: What could be more festive than all of the little lights decorating houses at this time of year, or the children’s drawings in Holiday colours hung in the windows? Send a photo of your decorated house so that it can be added to the City’s Facebook album. All of the details will be announced the week of November 23.
- Skating in Pointe-Claire Village: For outdoor activity enthusiasts, the City will be offering a new skating oval right in the heart of Pointe-Claire Village, at the intersection of Cartier Avenue and Du Bord-du-Lac ̶ Lakeshore Road. With this additional skating rink, more people will be able to enjoy some family fun, while respecting physical distancing.
Mayor Belvedere reiterates that it is more important than ever to keep in touch with our loved ones, and to use the technology at hand to stay in contact.
“Let’s make an effort to be present by telephone or videoconference so that we can chat and take care of each other. Let’s pay special attention to our loved ones and friends, and take care of yourself too during this difficult time that we’re going through,” said Mayor Belvedere.
“To one and all, enjoy these special activities, continue to encourage our local merchants, and I wish you and your loved ones a joyous Holiday period,” said the mayor.
