May 8, 2020 – Message from the mayor – Let’s keep up our efforts

Dear Citizens,

We have stood united for eight weeks now in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. Today, I want to acknowledge the efforts of our seniors living in residences. We look forward to seeing you again.

The government has eased the confinement measures that apply to you so that you can go out for walks, do your groceries, go to the pharmacy and meet with your loved ones from a distance and under certain conditions. We have to protect physical health, as well as take care of mental health.

We are very happy about this. Things will not go back to normal for several months, and we must continue to keep our distance. It is also recommended to wear a mask. Let’s all be cautious and respectful so that together, our efforts continue to save lives.

I would also like to acknowledge the dedication of the Beaconsfield Quilters, who have been making masks. They have already produced over 10,000, which have been delivered to hospitals, seniors’ residences and CHSLDs throughout the West Island. At the Council meeting, we awarded them funding and thanked them for this initiative that helps protect front-line workers.

On behalf of City Council and staff, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day. Despite the challenges, let’s all be sure to mark this special holiday this year, virtually, out of love for our mothers.

Together, let’s continue to stand united to fight COVID-19.

John Belvedere
Mayor of Pointe-Claire
