National Seniors Day 2019 — Honoring senior citizens

The Mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, is pleased to announce a festive event to celebrate National Seniors Day, which will be held on Friday, September 27, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Arthur-Séguin Chalet.

It will be a lively afternoon for Pointe-Claire seniors, with tea, desserts, surprises and musical performance by Greg Innis.

The City of Pointe-Claire’s Aid for Seniors Program implements projects aimed, among other things, at fostering the development of intergenerational links by involving community youth. This creates a dialogue that exposes these young people to the life journeys of a generation that has witnessed social and cultural revolutions that have shaped the world in which they live.

“National Seniors Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to our elders for the richness and diversity of experiences they have had along the way and their continued contribution to our community’s development. We encourage young people to create a deeper bond with the seniors around them and discover snippets of their lives that are steeped in history,” Mayor Belvedere said.

This day is being held as part of the International Day of Older Persons, established by the United Nations General Assembly and celebrated around the world on October 1 each year.

The event on Friday, September 27, is free. Seniors are invited to check for availability by calling 514-630-1214, extension 1644.

The Arthur-Séguin Chalet is located at 365 Saint-Louis Avenue.
