Pointe-Claire athletes on the podium at the Diving World Series and Commonwealth Games

The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, is pleased to highlight the remarkable performances of the Pointe-Claire Dive Club over the past few weeks at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and at the Diving World Series in Montréal and Russia.

“Our Dive Club athletes have once again shone in recent international competitions. Their talent and dedication have helped them become some of the best in their sport. We are proud to have them represent our City and serve as an example for younger athletes in their pursuit of excellence,” stated Mayor Belvedere.

The athletes stood out at the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4 to 15, and took home four medals: one gold for Jennifer Abel in the individual 3-metre springboard; two silver medals for Meaghan Benfeito in the 10-metre platform, in synchronized and individual events; and one bronze for Vincent Riendeau in the 10-metre platform.

At the Diving World Series competition in Montréal, which took place from April 27 to 29, Pointe-Claire athletes won five medals.

Jennifer Abel won three medals in as many events: gold in the mixed 3-metre synchronized event, silver in the women’s 3-metre synchronized event, and bronze in the individual 3-metre springboard.

Meaghan Benfeito and Nathan Zsombor-Murray won gold in the mixed 10-metre platform.  Meaghan Benfeito also won bronze in the individual 10-metre platform event.

The athletes maintained their momentum at the Diving World Series competition in Kazan, Russia, which took place from May 4 to 6.

Jennifer Abel once again took home a gold medal in the mixed 3-metre synchronized event,  silver in the women’s 3-metre synchronized event, and a bronze medal in the 3-metre springboard.

Our athletes will be competing in the Canada Cup in Calgary until May 13 and in the World Cup in Wuhan, China, from June 5 to 10.

“We encourage everyone to follow the extraordinary performances of our athletes and we wish them success in their upcoming competitions,” said the mayor in conclusion.
