Pointe-Claire wins eight medals at the National Diving Championships

The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, is pleased to congratulate the Pointe-Claire Dive Club athletes for their exceptional performances, helping them win eight medals at the National Diving Championships, which were recently held in Victoria, British Columbia.

“These athletes should be proud of their achievements. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, they are ambassadors for our future athletes and for those who want to hone their skills in their chosen field. We are thrilled that the City is represented with this much talent, perseverance, and success,” stated Mayor Belvedere.

Among the performances that contributed to the eight-medal total, three athletes stood out by winning two gold medals each in synchronized and individual events.

Jennifer Abel was crowned the Canadian women’s champion in the 3-metre springboard and won a second gold medal with her partner, Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu, in the synchronized 3-metre springboard event.

In their first competition as a team, Vincent Riendeau and Nathan Zsombo-Murray won first place in the men’s synchronized 10-metre platform, as well as a gold medal for Vincent Riendeau and a bronze for Nathan Zsombo-Murray in individual platform events.

Meaghan Benfeito reached the top of the podium in the women’s individual 10-metre platform event. She also won a gold medal with her partner, Caeli McKay, in the synchronized 10-metre platform event.

Pointe-Claire athletes have ended 2018 on a very high note, since the results of the National Championships will count toward qualification for the FINA World Championships, which will take place this summer, leading up to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
