Before installing anything or starting your project, be sure to find out whether you need a permit or certificate of authorization.

Public Works

A permit request is required for tree felling and pesticide use.

To fell a tree, please fill out a request online. The location of the tree(s) form found below must be attached to be request.

Pesticide use

Before applying for a pesticide use permit, please consult by-law PC-2865 – Respecting the use of pesticides in the territory of the City of Pointe-Claire.

To apply for a permit, please fill out the application form and send it to tp@pointe-claire.ca.

Residential sector

For residential properties, a permit or certificate is required for the types of work listed below. To view the procedure, click on the type of project you want to undertake. Make sure you know the by-laws that apply to your project (you can download them below):


By-laws applicable to the residential sector

By-laws are updated regularly. Therefore, we strongly urge you to call the Planning Department at 514-630-1206 to make sure relevant by-laws have not been recently amended.

Applying for a permit or certificate

How to apply:


1. Submitting a request for a building permit or certificate of authorization

Files should be sent in the following formats:

Plans, authorization letters, location certificates, etc. PDF
Images and photos JPEG

To ensure effective follow-up, please include the street address and the reason for the application in the subject line of your email.


2. Confirmation and payment

You will receive an email that will either confirm that your application is complete or tell you that some documents are missing or incomplete.

Once your application is complete, it will be assigned a file number and you will be required to pay a processing fee. You can do this in person at the tax counter, located on the ground floor of City Hall, or by calling 514-630-1300, extension 1829.


3. Analysis

Analysis of your application will begin once you have paid the fee. Additional documents may be required as the analysis is carried out, and there may also be additional fees to be paid (damage deposit, connection fee, curb cut fee, etc.). Once the analysis is complete, the Planning Department will let you know whether your application has been approved or denied. If it is approved, a permit or certificate will be issued.

Fees and payments

As of September 1, 2018, only invoices totaling less than $ 10,000 can be paid by credit card.

Applicable fees are due when the application is submitted. Damage deposits are due when the permit or certificate of authorization is issued.

Requests are processed in the order they are received.

  1. When a permit or certificate is issued, a deposit is required to cover the cost of repairing or replacing damaged City infrastructures. The deposit will be refunded if there is no damage.
  2. In some cases, fees may also be payable to the Engineering and Buildings Department.
  3. See By-Law PC-2818 for the amounts of required financial guarantees.

Engineering

The forms and documents related to an application for a permit or certificate for engineering works must be emailed to ingenierie@pointe-claire.ca.

Engineering work

A permit request is required for the following engineering works:

  • Service connections
  • Fire hydrant connections
  • Widening your driveway or creating a new driveway (curb/sidewalk)
  • Building or replacing a culvert without a driveway
  • Moving a lamp post

A different form is available for a permit to occupy the public domain.
