The ecstatic music of traditional Eastern European dances had a great impact on Baroque composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, the legendary 18th century Italian composer who was inspired by the frenzied rhythms and heartbreaking melodies of his anonymous nomadic colleagues. Our program puts the fascinating music of the Uhrovska collection (1730) in dialogue with the concertos of Antonio Vivaldi, a high-flying encounter that makes you want to move your legs and dance!
Matthias Maute, Sophie Larivière, recorder, flute; Lucie Ringuette, Karin Cuellar, baroque violin; Pemi Paull, viola; Susie Napper, cello; David Jacques, baroque guitar; Miguel Medina, percussion; Reuven Rothman, double bass
