This conference will feature excerpts from the novel The Black Bridge Commitment, followed by a discussion period. By exploring the economic, historical, and cultural context of the fictional community of Backbridge, Trinidad, the audience will experience the rich cultural heritage of the country, strongly influenced by its residents, who are not only descendants of slaves, but also immigrants from other Caribbean islands. Focus will then shift to the dynamics of Caribbean immigrant culture in Toronto and how, in Quebec, it is impacted by Indigenous and Francophone realities.
