Description
The work is made of Ductal®, an ultra-high performance fibrous concrete. It was cast in a mould made up of books that were provided to the artists by members of the Pointe-Claire community. Reproducing the books’ surfaces in fine detail, the work shows their edges and their inverted titles. The negative space created by the unmoulding of the books shows the void created by the departure of the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre-Dame, to whom the work pays tribute. The coloured porcelain plaques added to the front of the sculpture represent the covers of old books used by the Sisters as part of their educational mission.
