2023 National Public Works Week – The Public Works Department recognized by the Canadian Public Works Association
The City of Pointe-Claire is proud to announce that the Public Works Department has once again won an award from the Canadian Public Works Association (CPWA) for its Public Works Day as part of National Public Works Week. The award will be presented at a gala event on August 28.
“The Public Works Department is essential in helping the city run smoothly and plays an important role in the quality of life of our citizens. The department is responsible for the maintenance and good condition of our streets, sidewalks, parks, green spaces, sports fields and urban canopy. Each year, during Public Works Week, fun and creative activities are offered, allowing participants to better understand the municipal crews’ work, try out their equipment and meet the staff dedicated to the well-being of our community. I’m proud that their work is recognized across Canada,” says Pointe-Claire Mayor Tim Thomas.
National Public Works Week was held last May, from the 21st to 27th. On this occasion, a thematic day took place in-person in the Public Works parking lot, on Saturday, May 27. The event featured fun and enriching activities, hosted by Public Works personnel. The young and young at heart had the opportunity to discover the work performed by the men and women who make up the different teams. Various vehicles were also on display, each with informative posters explaining its function. A “Seek and Find” activity also encouraged citizens to find badges representing each of the different protective equipment used by the Public Works team. Creative arts and crafts and colouring activities on the theme with the event were also offered, as well as a construction-themed inflatable play course and a toy car circuit for children. Younger visitors were able to practice their street marking skills using chalk and the stencils used by our teams.
Public Works Day was a remarkable success, enjoyed by over 800 citizens of all ages!
Several departments worked together to ensure the event’s success: Public Works, Communications, Human Resources and Recreation all pitched in. Congratulations everyone!
