A lightning detector for greater safety

The City of Pointe-Claire would like to inform citizens that Alexandre-Bourgeau Park is now equipped with a lightning detector to warn users in the event of storms.

“The purpose of this equipment is to increase the safety of citizens in Alexandre-Bourgeau Park and adjacent areas, as well as recreational boaters on Lake Saint-Louis,” states Mayor Trudeau.

The detector, located near the park chalet, will emit a 15-second audible signal when there is risk of lightning, and a strobe light will flash until conditions are safe again. The recommendation is to resume activities after three 5 second audible signals are emitted and the strobe light stops flashing.

When a storm is approaching, it is recommended that you seek shelter in a building or vehicle. Some locations should be avoided, such as green spaces, bodies of water, sports facilities, and places close to tall trees, metal fences, and overhead cables.
