Ash tree treatment period

The City of Pointe-Claire would like to remind you that the period for treating ash trees has begun, and residents are offered a preferential rate of $3.73 per centimetre of treated tree diameter.

To date, the preventive TreeAzin treatment is the only intervention recommended by experts that provide effective protection against the emerald ash borer. The intervention consists of injecting an insecticide into the base of the tree trunks, and this is effective for two years. The treatment must be performed by professionals.

A grant equivalent to 50% of the treatment cost, up to $1,500 per residential address every two years, is available to homeowners. The treatment can be applied only until August 31.

Only healthy ash trees can be treated. All ash trees with more than 30% dead branches must be felled. This must be done promptly, as dead ash trees are dangerous and more expensive to fell. A grant for felling ash trees is also offered to residential owners.

For more information and to make an appointment to have your ash trees inspected for preventive treatment or felling, contact the Public Works Department at 514-630-1230 or tp@pointe-claire.ca.
