Car theft prevention activity: a resounding success!
On Friday, December 13, in collaboration with the Pointe-Claire Inspection – Public Security Department and other security partners, the SPVM’s Poste de quartier 5 (PDQ 5) held the 4th edition of the É.P.A.V.V. (Équipe de Prévention des vols de et dans les Véhicules) project. This project aims to prevent vehicle theft and break-ins.
With the approach of the holiday season, a period particularly prone to theft, the objective was to deploy a targeted preventive initiative in a problematic area: the CF Fairview Pointe-Claire shopping mall parking lot.
To carry out this operation, the PDQ 5 police team, accompanied by SPVM riders, joined forces with several partners: Sûreté du Québec officers, Pointe-Claire Public Security inspectors, CF Fairview Pointe-Claire mall security officers and Info-Crime Montréal.
99 courtesy tickets were issued to vehicle owners who had left their doors unlocked or valuables in plain view. In addition, nearly 450 people were educated on good safety practices.
Congratulations to all our partners for their collaboration and contribution to theft prevention.
How to protect your car
Here are a few ways to protect yourself against car theft:
- Always lock your doors.
- Make sure windows are closed properly.
- Keep valuables out of sight.
- Use additional safety devices: anti-theft bar, window etching, vehicle tracking device, etc.
The Pointe-Claire Public Security and PDQ 5 teams wish you all the best for the holiday season!
