Current Status of Collection Services

Due to the significant amount of debris caused by the heavy rainfall on August 9, the City has arranged multiple collection efforts to support residents. The large quantities of debris and waste have led to additional delays in the collection process. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and patience during this time.

To keep you informed, here is an update on the current status of collection services:

Household Waste Collection

Due to the large volume of debris, the weekly summer schedule for household waste collection will be maintained next week. Collections will occur as follows:

  • Sector A: Tuesday, September 3
  • Sector B: Wednesday, September 4

If you notice on collection day that the bins on your street have not been picked up, we ask that you leave them at the curb; they will be collected in the following days.

Please note that the collection of household waste is carried out separately from the special collection of storm debris.

Special Storm Debris Collection

Given the high volume of debris, special collection efforts continue daily from Monday to Friday throughout Pointe-Claire.

For this collection, all types of items and materials (e.g., padded furniture, construction materials, etc.) are accepted. However, hazardous household waste, electronic devices, and appliances containing halocarbons (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, etc.) must not be disposed of during this collection.

Instructions for special collection:

  • Your debris must be placed in your driveway, at the edge of the public roadway.
  • The weight of each item must not exceed 220 lbs (100 kg), and the maximum dimensions are 1.8 m (6 ft) by 1.2 m (4 ft).
  • Debris placed in plastic bags should not weigh more than 55 lbs (25 kg).
  • IMPORTANT: Sharp or dangerous materials must be secured (e.g., remove nails, screws, or others).
  • Where possible, objects should be tied in bundles to prevent scattering and to facilitate pickup.

We understand that some of you may want to take this opportunity to do a major cleanup, but we ask that you refrain from overloading the collections with materials unrelated to the recent storms. Our collection teams are working intensively to provide continuous and efficient service despite the significant challenges posed by current conditions. Your cooperation is crucial in helping them maintain a steady pace without exhaustion.

To ensure efficient processing of this debris, we ask that you do not place non-contaminated bulky items at the curb during this period. These collections are dedicated to flood-related debris, which will be picked up and taken directly to the landfill.

All other uncontaminated items should be set asidefor scheduled bulky item collections or brought to the ecocentres.

September Collection Schedule

Please note that several collections will take place in September to help you properly dispose of items and materials, whether they are related to the floods or not.

It’s important to use the following collections if your article is not related to the flooding:

  • Wednesday, September 11: bulky items collection
  • Saturday, September 14: ecocentre (at the Public Works yard)
  • Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15: hazardous household waste (parking lot behind City Hall)

Collection Calendar

Due to the special collection and the temporary continuation of the weekly waste collection schedule, the dates of these collections may not align with those listed on the collection calendar.

For other types of collections, please consult our website’s “Waste Collection Guide and Calendar” page for detailed information and instructions regarding these collections.

For updates or additional information on special collections, please visit the News section of our website and follow the City’s social media accounts.

Your cooperation and patience are essential in these circumstances.
