Death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – City hall flags at half-mast

The flags in front of City Hall are at half-mast in tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, 2022, at age 96.

On February 6, 1952, Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the British throne. She then became Queen of England and Head of the Commonwealth, of which Canada is a part.

Her reign is the longest in the British monarchy. In 2022, she became the first monarch in UK history to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, which marks the 70th anniversary of her ascension to the throne.

“She brought the world 70 years of grace and stability. We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the Royal Family and the British people,” said Mayor Thomas.

The flags shall be at half-mast until dusk on the day of the memorial service.
