Fifth road safety campaign

The mayor of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, announced the launch of the fifth road safety campaign, aiming to raise awareness in the community about obeying the speed limits throughout the City.

“The safety of everyone on our roads, bicycle paths, and sidewalks is crucial. This campaign encourages everyone who would like to contribute in their own way to raise awareness among their neighbours, family, and friends about the importance of civic action and obeying the speed limits in Pointe-Claire. Over 1,000 residents have displayed awareness signs on their property over the past three years. Their invaluable participation encourages us to maintain and improve this positive and friendly campaign,” stated Mayor Belvedere.

Once again featuring the slogan Slower is safer, the 2019 edition reminds all road users – drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike – that safe behaviour is important. Signs illustrating the benefits of obeying speed limits, being careful, and acting appropriately are displayed on public and private property.

This year, bumper stickers will also be handed out to residents to promote the campaign. A smaller model is also available and can be placed on a bicycle or helmet. They are available at the multiservice counter at City Hall and will be distributed during summer events to reinforce good behaviour and spread the awareness movement.

“This campaign encourages the shared responsibility of being courteous and respectful to others on our roads, sidewalks, and bicycle paths. We invite all residents to participate in the campaign,” added the mayor.

The signs can be displayed in front of your home until mid-October. To request one, contact the Inspection – Public Security Department at 514-630-1234 or secpub@pointe-claire.ca. Signs and stickers are now available free of charge.

All residents are encouraged to take part in this campaign. From June to September, there will be a monthly draw to win a City gift basket from among all residents who requested a sign.
