Fourth road safety campaign

The mayor of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, is pleased to announce the the fourth road safety campaign raising awareness in the community about obeying the speed limits throughout the City.

“The safety of everyone on our roads, bicycle paths, and sidewalks is crucial. Through this campaign, those who would like to contribute in their own way can raise awareness among their neighbours, family, and friends about the importance of civic action and obeying the speed limits in Pointe-Claire. The invaluable participation of people who displayed over 725 awareness signs in front of their homes over the past two years confirms our commitment to maintain and improve this positive and friendly campaign,” stated Mayor Belvedere.

Once again featuring the slogan Slower is safer, the 2018 edition is a reminder of how important it is to obey speed limits for the safety of everyone on the road – drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Signs displayed on public and private property focus on speed limits and why it is important to obey them by encouraging people to be careful and act appropriately. Last year, some 265 additional signs were installed in front of homes, adding to the 460 signs distributed in 2016.

Buddy, the City mascot, stars in this year’s campaign. Our big, friendly dog teaches safe driving, cycling, and walking behaviour on signs distributed throughout the City. Our mascot will also attend events during the summer to reinforce good behaviour and promote the awareness movement.

“This campaign shows a shared responsibility to behave in a courteous and respectful manner toward others on our streets, sidewalks, and bicycle paths. By encouraging civic-mindedness, we can improve the quality of life for everyone,” added the mayor.

Signs are now available free of charge. They can be displayed in front of your home until mid-October. To request one, contact the Inspection – Public Security Department at 514-630-1234 or secpub@pointe-claire.ca.
