Geopoetics Exhibit – Come celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation at Stewart Hall

The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, Morris Trudeau, and City Council members invite all residents to the launch of cultural festivities celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation on Sunday, June 11, starting at 1 p.m. at the Stewart Hall Cultural Centre.

“You are all invited to participate in cultural activities centred on the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, which have been organized with and for our community. We thank everyone who took part in the creative process and on Sunday we will discover your exceptional artistic creations through the exhibits and appreciate your involvement in our community,” states Mayor Trudeau.

The vernissage of Geopoetics on Sunday will unveil three varied exhibits of works created by 25 Canadian artists. Throughout the summer, visitors can walk through Stewart Park and admire 12 original works of art, 11 of which were created especially for their presentation in Pointe-Claire. The vernissage will also mark the inauguration of Les ombres claires, a public artwork by André Dubois; an artistic performance by Mélissa Simard on the shores of Lake Saint-Louis; and music on the public piano with Roman Zavada on the Cultural Centre patio. Creative workshops will be organized for the whole family.

To support and promote this large-scale community project, the curator of the exhibit, Ms. Kasia Basta, will be on hand to discuss the creative process and the meaning of the works on display. She will be joined by artists who have collaborated on the project.

This diverse cultural program is part of the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation and has been made possible with the support of the Department of Canadian Heritage.

“This is an opportunity to discover art through the concepts of culture, territory and nation which define our Canadian identity. I hope to meet you all there,” adds Mayor Trudeau.

The vernissage and all activities will begin at 1 p.m. and continue until 5 p.m. For more details about the program, click HERE.
