Update: August 12, 2024

Special storm debris collection starting Tuesday, August 13

A special collection will start tomorrow, Tuesday, August 13. It will take place over several days and in several stages: therefore, it is possible that different trucks will come on different days to pick up your debris.

Due to the exceptional circumstances, all types of items and materials, except for hazardous household waste, electronic devices, and appliances containing halocarbons (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, …).

The debris must be placed at the curb.

Check the special instructions for this collection.

Terra-Cotta Natural Park: Caution Advised

The trails at Terra-Cotta Natural Park have been heavily impacted by recent weather, particularly the bridges. An inspection will be carried out in the coming days.

Due to heavy rainfall, the mulch covering the trails has been partially washed away, making some sections very slippery. We strongly advise caution when using the park.

Alexandre-Bourgeau Park Boat Launch

The boat launch located at Alexandre-Bourgeau Park remains fully operational. Citizens with a valid permit may use this facility under the usual conditions.

Update: August 10, 2024

Tropical Storm Debby hit Quebec on August 9, severely impacting our area. As our teams continue to work tirelessly to restore normalcy, here are some answers to the most pressing questions from residents.

Is the water drinkable in Pointe-Claire after the storm?

Yes, the water remains safe to drink until further notice. You can use it for drinking, cooking, and all other household uses without worry.

What should I do if my basement is flooded?

Before re-entering your home, ensure it is safe. Signs such as cracked ceilings, sagging floors, or doors that won’t close may indicate structural problems. If in doubt, it’s best to consult a building expert.

Do not enter a flooded basement to avoid electrical risks or contamination. Contact your insurance company immediately to report the damage and make an inventory of the damages, accompanied by photos or videos. It is also advisable to install a pump to remove the water as quickly as possible, making sure to follow appropriate safety guidelines.

What should I do with debris after the storm?

Storm-generated debris, such as damaged items, can be placed in your waste bins if they fit.

For larger items, significant volumes, and damaged building materials, please take them to the ecocentre. We are currently assessing the feasibility of creating a special ecocenter for these weather conditions. We will share more information on this topic soon.

This will ensure proper treatment and recycling while preventing overloading of regular collection services.

Are the Pointe-Claire Days events affected?

Most activities planned for Pointe-Claire Days are going ahead. However, we have had to cancel the family movie night scheduled for this evening due to recent weather conditions and to ensure everyone’s safety.

We stand in solidarity with everyone affected. Together, we are working to overcome the challenges created by this storm.

August 9, 2024

Due to the heavy rain over the past few hours, our emergency service teams are currently overwhelmed. For any life-threatening situations requiring immediate assistance, please call 911.

Please be aware that phone lines may be disrupted, making communication more difficult at this time.

If you have water in your basement:

  • Elevate your furniture as much as possible.
  • Turn off the power to the outlets and heaters, or even shut off the circuit breakers.
  • Do not touch electrical equipment or panels if they are wet or if you are in contact with water.

Several areas are experiencing water accumulation. With more rain expected in the coming hours, our teams are actively working across the region to minimize potential impacts.

We encourage you to limit travel in the area if it can be postponed, as some streets are flooded.

We are monitoring the situation closely and will share further updates on our website and Facebook page.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
