Important reminder about door-to-door solicitation

The City of Pointe-Claire wishes to remind its citizens that any door-to-door solicitation or sale of goods or services requires a valid peddler’s permit issued by the City.

This reminder has become necessary, as some residents have reported visits from vendors offering services such as attic or residential drain inspections.

We remind you that you are under no obligation to open your door to anyone. If you decide to do so, it is your responsibility to ensure that the person visiting your home is authorized to operate in the territory. We recommend that you ask the vendor to show you their City of Pointe-Claire peddler’s permit. If they can’t provide it, you should be on guard. When in doubt, you have the right to refuse access to your home to anyone. You can also call the Inspection – Public Security Department to check whether a company has obtained a peddler’s permit for the service you require.

If the person becomes insistent, and depending on the circumstances, contact Public Security or the police. Should you have any questions or require additional information, please contact the Inspection – Public Security Department at 514-630-1234 or by email at secpub@pointe-claire.ca.
