Pointe-Claire resident, City employee and teacher honoured for saving a boy’s life
The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, Morris Trudeau, honours the outstanding conduct of a Pointe-Claire resident, a City employee and a teacher who saved the life of a boy in distress at the Aquatic Centre this spring.
“Saving a life is one of the finest things a human being can do,” said the mayor at a City Council meeting on Tuesday at which the three heroes of the moment were honoured by all present. “We’re proud of these three people who acted on April 28.”
On April 28, 2016, students were having lunch in the hall at the Aquatic Centre when a boy began to choke. Aquatic Centre employee Theresa-Jane O’Donnell rushed to help Laura Svab Methot, the teacher, who had gone to the aid of the child. Their efforts to clear his airways were fortunately successful, with the further assistance of Pointe-Claire resident Pierre Massicotte.
When the child was breathing again, the three helpers stayed with him until the paramedics could take over. As a result of their immediate and effective response, the child was able to return to school the next day.
“Ms. O’Donnell, Ms. Svab-Methot and Mr. Massicotte did exactly the right thing, and displayed dedication and courage in saving the boy’s life. Their actions bring honour to the City of Pointe-Claire,” noted Mayor Trudeau.
