Joanne Poirier appointed Director of the Planning Department

The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, announces the appointment of Ms. Joanne Poirier as Director of the Planning Department of the City of Pointe-Claire.

Ms. Poirier, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and is a member of the Ordre des architectes du Québec, worked at the City of Westmount for 30 years, including 26 years in the Urban Planning Department.

“Her experience in urban planning and project and team management as well as her expertise in balancing land use development with a consideration for the living environment and sustainable development are assets for our City,” Mayor Belvedere said.

Ms. Poirier has been involved in a number of significant projects during her career, including the adoption of a by-law recognizing the Glen viaduct as a heritage building, the planning and preparation of a Special Planning Program, various public consultations, the architectural inventory of modern-style buildings as well as the completion and updating of the Site Planning and Architectural Integration Program (SPAIP) By-Law.

While at the City of Westmount, she also served on various committees associated with major projects, such as the Westmount Recreation Centre, completed in 2014 and LEED Gold-certified, and the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), where she evaluated some of the project’s impacts in the community.

As Director of the Planning Department, Ms. Poirier will be responsible for redesigning the Planning Program and updating municipal by-laws, creating a Special Planning Program for the industrial sector, and conducting public consultations on land use planning.
