Junior and senior diving championships – Pointe-Claire brings home 12 medals

The Mayor of Pointe-Claire, Morris Trudeau, is proud to announce outstanding performances by the Pointe-Claire Diving Club, which ranked second in the general classification with a total of 12 medals at the Junior and Senior Provincial Championships held at the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre from March 31 to April 2, 2017.

“It is a source of great pride to see our athletes excelling in their chosen disciplines, and there is a special resonance when these performances are achieved at events held in our own city,” noted Mayor Trudeau.

In all, 115 athletes representing 12 clubs from Quebec and Ontario matched techniques and precision to qualify for the Canada Cup – FINA Diving Grand Prix in Gatineau. Athletes from the Pointe-Claire Diving Club came away with a collection of medals: Mia Vallée distinguished herself with three golds (1 metre and 3 metres, Group A, and 1 metre Senior) and a silver (3 metres Senior); Erin Field took the platform silver. Among the men, Nathan Zsombor-Murray won two gold medals in Group B (1 metre and platform) and a bronze in the 3 metres; Thomas Ciprick won the 3 metre gold, the platform silver and the 1 metre bronze (Group B).

These four athletes will be flying to Germany to take part in the International Youth Diving Meet in Dresden, April 20 to 23.

In addition, Dean Calfacacos, a fellow diver, won a bronze medal in the 3 metre event (Group D).

“It is always impressive to see such young athletes competing at the international level. We congratulate them and wish them all the best in the upcoming events,” added Mayor Trudeau.
