Update: Major Snowstorm – Snow Removal Operations
The City of Pointe-Claire would like to inform you of the latest updates regarding snow removal operations and recommendations following the recent snowstorms:
Snow Removal Progress
- All streets in Pointe-Claire have been cleared. Snow loading operations will continue overnight to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow.
- All sidewalks will be completely cleared by the end of the day, allowing for safe passage for pedestrians.
- Snow removal operations for fire hydrants and municipal building roofs are underway and are expected to continue for several days.
Maintaining Collections
- Waste collection will proceed according to the regular schedule.
- To facilitate access to your bins for our collection teams, we please ask that your bins be placed in a way that is visible and easily accessible, without obstructing pedestrian or road traffic.
- For all collection dates and details, please check the calendar on the website.
For Your Travel
- Drivers should adjust their speed to winter conditions, especially with low temperatures that can reduce the effectiveness of de-icing products. Caution is particularly important at intersections, where snowbank height can significantly reduce visibility.
- Pedestrians and cyclists should ensure that they are clearly seen by motorists before crossing the road, especially at intersections and crosswalks.
Water Main Breaks
- In addition to snow removal operations, municipal teams have responded to eight water main breaks in recent days, which required significant mobilization.
- If you have been affected by a water main break and have received a precautionary boil water advisory, you must wait to receive a new door hanger confirming the advisory has been lifted.
- We ask you to remain vigilant and respect the temporary signage in work zones to ensure everyone’s safety.
Once again, we thank you for your cooperation and patience.

The City of Pointe-Claire is facing an exceptional situation. Since last Thursday, precipitation has created 74 cm (29 in) of snow. To date, we have already accumulated 86 cm of snow this month, well above the February average of 42 cm.
To effectively address this situation, the City of Pointe-Claire is mobilizing its teams to carry out snow removal operations around the clock, 7 days a week for the next 7 days.
The cooperation of every resident is essential to optimize the efficiency of snow removal:
Parking
- During the day: We ask you not to park on the street during the day to facilitate the passage of snow removal equipment.
- At night: Overnight street parking will be prohibited at least until the night of Thursday, February 20 to Friday, February 21, 2025For more information, please check Snow Info.
In general, we ask you to please keep the public way clear and not to block access to sidewalks, to allow for rapid and effective progress in snow removal operations.
Snow in Driveways
During snow removal, it is possible that city equipment may deposit snow in front of your driveway. It is your responsibility to remove this snow to maintain access to your home.
Eligible seniors meeting certain criteria can benefit from a snow removal service, thanks to the senior assistance program.
It remains prohibited at all times to place snow onto the streets or sidewalks: it not only risks being pushed back into your driveway and making the road slippery, but you also face a fine of up to $300, with or without costs.
Fire Hydrant Clearing
The clearing of fire hydrants will begin on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, and could take up to two weeks. If you wish to clear your own hydrant, we recommend ensuring a clearance of 1.5 m (59 in) around it.
