Notice of work Replacement of the mooring zone anchors at Grande-Anse Park

Update – Novembre 16, 2021

The City of Pointe-Claire wishes to inform you that it is undertaking the second phase of work at Grande-Anse Park. After having installed new docks in the spring and in September, it is now replacing the mooring zone anchors. The work schedule was determined in accordance with the fish spawning period, and the reproductive cycle of Lake Saint-Louis’ wildlife, and plant life.

The current anchors – train wheels, which have been in place for more than 20 years, do not meet today’s environmental standards. The new anchors minimize the footprint on the ground and the impact on local wildlife and plant life.

The equipment to carry out this work uses a fuel and organic oils that will not pollute the water. Furthermore, a team of scuba divers will be in the water to ensure minimal sediment disturbance.

In accordance with current environmental standards, the project was submitted to Québec’s Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques as well as to Fisheries and Oceans Canada and a certificate of authorization was issued for the work.

Notice of work – Replacement of the docks at Grande-Anse Park

The City of Pointe-Claire would like to inform you that work is underway to install new docks at Grande-Anse Park. This work will be carried out in two stages.

This week, the work will involve replacing the two existing docks, whose condition did not allow for safe access to regular summer activities. These docks will be accessible as of the week of June 7. Access to the docks is reserved for members of the Pointe-Claire Canoe Kayak Club. It is possible to become a member in order to have access. For full details, contact the Club.

In compliance with current environmental standards, the project was submitted to the Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques du Québec and a certificate of authorization was granted for the work. A project schedule was established in compliance with environmental requirements.

The new docks will be installed on top of the existing concrete blocks in order to avoid disrupting the fish spawning period and to respect the reproduction cycle of the lake’s fauna and flora. In addition, the installation of the docks will be done in such a way as to minimize the mixing of the lake waters and avoid adding sediments, such as dust, sand from the water’s edge, residue from the street, and so on.

In August, the anchors will be replaced and the two docks will be reinstalled on the new anchors. We will take the opportunity to add a third.

The new docks will be adapted to citizens’ activities. Increasing the number of docks and their size will make it possible to increase the number of users on site.

Thank you for your cooperation.
