Update: Notice regarding the taste and odor of drinking water
Update: September 26, 2023
The City of Pointe-Claire wishes to remind you that around this time of year, you may notice a difference in the taste and odor of drinking water. No need to worry! From May to October, algae growth and the natural rise in the temperature of water increase the quantity of chlorine used and the number of water treatments to eliminate taste and odor which can occasionally be unpleasant. This maintenance of the solution level by the City of Montreal does not represents a health hazard. The smell and taste of the water can be reduced by placing bottles in the refrigerator.
The City of Pointe-Claire receives its drinking water supply from the City of Montreal’s Pointe-Claire water treatment centre. If you are concerned about this situation or want to learn more, visit the City of Montreal website: https://bit.ly/3OnheXw
Notice regarding the taste and odor of drinking water
July 20, 2023
Some citizens have noticed a difference in the smell and taste of the drinking water.
The City of Pointe-Claire wishes to inform you that this episodic situation is due to the presence of algae in the river. Algae growth is at its peak when the water temperature is higher, as it is during the summer months. When the water is naturally warmer, from May to October, chlorine levels can be slightly higher than normal.
As the City of Montreal’s Pointe-Claire drinking water production plant treats water to remove algae from drinking water, it’s normal to smell chlorine in your tap water. An earthy taste may persist while the circulating water is renewed.
It’s important to note that the current situation represents no health hazard. The smell and taste of the water can be reduced by placing jugs in the refrigerator.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
