November 4, 2020 – Provincial government update on the COVID-19 pandemic

Here is an update on recent decisions and actions by the Québec government in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fines for repeat offenders

Québec’s deputy premier, Geneviève Guilbault, issued a formal warning to all business owners and their customers that they are all subject to fines if they open or frequent businesses in a red zone where they are supposed to be closed.

Deputy Premier Guilbault delivered this reminder after a restaurant owner in Lac-Saint-Jean said that he plans to open his business on Friday because, in his opinion, restaurants pose less risk than big-box stores, which have been allowed to stay open, even in a maximum alert zone (red zone).

Ms. Guilbault reiterated that Cabinet recently adopted an order in council allowing law enforcement to hand out fines to both business owners and their customers if health guidelines are not being followed.
