Optimizing the life cycle of City vehicles – Public Works employee nominated for an excellence in transportation award

The Mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, Morris Trudeau, is proud to announce that Mathieu Auclair, Assistant Coordinator for the Public Network and an employee of the City, has been nominated in the Young Professional category for the Grands prix d’excellence en transport, an award given by the Association québécoise des transports (AQR). This nomination recognizes Mr. Auclair’s mechanical workshop optimization project that led to reduced times for repairs and maintenance while also extending the life of the City’s vehicles.

Mr. Auclair and his team, in conjunction with the procurement team, developed an organizational structure with the goal of encouraging sustainable development of the City’s fleet of vehicles – for both the mechanical workshop and parts procurement. As part of this initiative, the team supervised by Mr. Auclair reviewed internal processes, developed a new management tool and enhanced the role of every stakeholder.

Thanks to this project, the time required for the vehicle repair process was reduced by 75%; at the same time, the associated costs dropped considerably, while the useful lifecycle of the vehicles was extended. Moreover, the space of a garage was reconfigured to better meet workers’ needs.

“This nomination is shared with the teams that contributed to this ongoing enhancement project. I am proud to note that our actions are bearing fruit, and we will continue our procedures so that we can maintain – and even surpass – these exceptional results,” said Mathieu Auclair.

Winners will be announced during the 10th edition of the AQR gala, which will be held June 14, 2017 in Montréal. The criteria for the Young Professional category include the candidate’s level of project involvement, her or his contributions to developing innovative and sustainable solutions, together with the leadership, expertise and versatility demonstrated by the nominee.

“This initiative is aligned with our sustainable development processes and builds on the continuous enhancement of the services we offer to the community. Such innovative solutions can serve as models for municipalities or companies that have a fleet of vehicles to manage,” said Mayor Trudeau.
