Réseau express métropolitain

“A project with a strong positive impact for the development of Pointe-Claire.”
-Mayor John Belvedere

The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, welcomes the announcement of the launch of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) by the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), because it will have a positive impact on the economic development, quality of life, and urban density of Pointe-Claire while being an asset for the West Island and the Greater Montréal area.

“With two REM stations in Pointe-Claire, this launch is in line with sustainable development initiatives and promotes public transit for the entire community, as well as current and future generations,” noted Mayor Belvedere with satisfaction.

The REM is a new light rail transit system that is entirely automated and will provide frequent service morning to night, seven days a week. It consists of 26 stations across four lines that connect downtown Montréal to the cities of Sainte-Anne de Bellevue in the West Island, Deux-Montagnes in the Laurentians, and Brossard in the South Shore, as well as Montréal-Trudeau Airport.

“This project with a strong positive impact should allow us to improve traffic and reduce pollution, thereby contributing to the quality of life and health of our residents,” stated Mayor Belvedere.

The Réseau express métropolitain will include two stations in Pointe-Claire: one at the intersection of Des Sources Boulevard and Highway 40, and another at the Fairview Pointe-Claire shopping centre.

“The route was modified to ensure the city entrance on Saint-Jean Boulevard is completely visible, as we requested. The portion of the route that crossed Highway 40 west of Saint-Jean Boulevard was moved to the east to preserve the urban landscape of our city entrance,” said Mayor Belvedere.

This recommendation was included in our memorandum submitted and presented to the Bureau des audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE) in September 2016.

“This sustainable mode of transportation will benefit all of society and it will have a considerable and visible impact on our environment, in addition to supporting the development of a new city centre for Pointe-Claire and the West Island,” said Mayor Belvedere in conclusion.
