Second instalment of tax bill – Measures taken by the City for certain cheques deposited despite the change in due date

The City wishes to inform you that certain cheques for the second instalment of the tax bill were accidentally deposited on the initially scheduled date of June 7, 2021, despite the fact that the due date for the second instalment has been postponed to August 26, 2021.

This situation affects homeowners who used the return envelope to send their cheques directly to the financial institution. All cheques that were personally handed in at the tax counter or placed in the box reserved for this purpose at City Hall were not deposited. This unfortunate situation also does not apply to any other form of payment.

The City wishes to express its regret for any inconvenience caused by this situation.

To inform the affected homeowners, an e-mail was sent to those whose e-mail address is in our files and a letter was sent by mail.

To remedy this situation, the City is offering to reimburse homeowners affected by this situation the second instalment of the tax bill, upon request, as well as any fees charged for bounced cheques, upon presentation of proof. The City can also provide an explanatory letter to the financial institution, upon request.

Any homeowner who requests a reimbursement must also send a new cheque dated August 26, 2021, for the second instalment of the tax bill. A return envelope will be enclosed with the letter for this purpose.

If you are a homeowner affected by this error and you wish to receive a reimbursement, please contact the tax team by e-mail (taxes@pointe-claire.ca) or by phone at 514-630-1300, ext. 1829, and provide your name, address, the properties in question and your contact information. Please allow up to 48 business hours for your request to be processed.

The tax team will follow up on the requests received, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to noon, and Monday to Thursday from 12:45 to 4:30 p.m.

Reimbursements will be made by cheque only. Homeowners who are being reimbursed can expect it to take approximately 10 days to receive their cheque, once the tax team has processed the request.
