The City Manager announces his departure
The City Manager of the City of Pointe-Claire, Robert-F. Weemaes, announced that he will leave his position this August 26 to join the Association of Suburban Municipalities (ASM), as Director General. The ASM brings together the mayors of the 15 suburban municipalities located on the Island of Montréal. Mr. Weemaes held the position of City Manager of the City of Pointe-Claire since August 2014.
A rigorous and dedicated manager, Robert-F. Weemaes has 48 years’ experience in the municipal field, including nearly 45 years as City Manager, serving in turn in ten Québec municipalities After beginning his career, in Gagnon, Chapais and Chibougamau in the northern part of the province, his talent was quickly noticed and the impact of his management subsequently recognized in Beloeil, Saint-Lambert, Granby, Repentigny, Gatineau and Pointe-Claire. He has worked and collaborated with 16 mayors, over 170 elected officers and 12,000 employees.
Mr. Weemaes is an exceptional manager who is able to recognize the merit of each person and showcase team innovation and excellence. In 2017, he received the Distinction award as city manager of the year, from the Association des directeurs généraux des municipalités du Québec.
“I will leave my position with great emotion, but also with great satisfaction that I have done my duty. I have lived through eight exceptional years in Pointe-Claire where, thanks to the collaboration of all members of the personnel and City Council, I have been able to meet many challenges and work on stimulating projects. This decision is motivated by family reasons and by the opportunity that arose to collaborate with the ASM/AMB, allowing me to continue working in the municipal field,” Robert-F. Weemaes emphasized.
“I want to mention Robert-F Weemaes’ work and commitment with the City of Pointe-Claire, he is a manager of experience, competence, integrity and professionalism. Thanks to him, many projects have been accomplished in the City Pointe-Claire, for the benefit of our entire community. City Council joins me in wishing him success in his new duties,” Mayor Tim Thomas declared.
The replacement process for the City Manager will be launched shortly.
