The first Youth Advisory Board introduced!

The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, and the members of City Council introduced the ten young residents who will form the first Youth Advisory Board of the City of Pointe-Claire during a public meeting yesterday.

“During my electoral campaign, I announced the creation of a youth council to allow our young residents to get involved in their community, voice their opinions on various projects and events, and offer suggestions to improve their living environment. One year later, we have ten young, dynamic, and motivated Pointe-Claire residents who are ready to tackle this new initiative,” stated the mayor.

A total of 27 young residents sent in high-quality applications, showing that the new generation has a genuine interest in this initiative. Ten candidates were selected through a rigorous interview process.

These young bilingual Pointe-Claire residents aged 14 to 21 who are active in their community will begin their term in January with the election of a president and a vice-president. The committee will also include Ms. Tara Stainforth, City Councillor for District 4 – Cedar Park Heights, one manager at the City, and one school representative.

The young members will participate in seven meetings per year to analyze projects and present their recommendations to City Council to improve activities, services, and public facilities in order to better meet their needs and those of the community. They will also be asked to represent the City of Pointe-Claire during events and activities, such as the inauguration of the skatepark next spring.

A ceremony will be held in the coming weeks for the young members to meet and get to know the members of City Council.

“These young members of all ages and backgrounds will have the privilege of participating directly in municipal affairs at various levels. It is also an exceptional opportunity for City Council and will allow our elected officials to get to know our young residents’ preferences and encourage citizens to participate. We wish them the best of luck with their mandate,” said Mayor Belvedere in conclusion.
