Tribute to veterans: New plaque in Valois Park
On August 16, 2017, at the Valois Park baseball field, then-Mayor Morris Trudeau unveiled a plaque honouring veterans.
During the official ceremony, Mayor Trudeau recalled that the first baseball game played at Valois Park took place on Saturday, June 11, 1932. This friendly game, organized by the Lakeshore Softball League, had the Valois Vets face-off against the Valois Blues. Over the years, the baseball field has become central to the vitality of the area.
After the Second World War, many veterans settled in Pointe-Claire, particularly in the Valois sector.
The City Council therefore decided to name the baseball infield in honour of Pointe-Claire residents who fought for our country and contributed to the city’s growth and development.
Thanks to the vigilance of a veteran, Mr. Phil Miller, it was brought to our attention that the poster had disappeared.
Today, we are pleased to announce that two new plaque have been installed on the fences of the Valois Park baseball field, facing the spectator bleachers. Pointe-Claire residents can pay tribute to the veterans and to Mr. Miller on their next visit to the ballpark.
