Update regarding the City’s website

The City of Pointe-Claire wishes to inform citizens of the current status of its website. As some residents may have observed over the last few weeks, there have been sporadic technical difficulties with the City’s website.

The website was created in 2015 and launched in 2016, which is more than eight years ago. Since its design, our use has greatly evolved, and our needs are much more sophisticated today. Many online services and features have been added since its inception. These additional functionalities were not necessarily taken into account in the initial design, and they have weighed it down, and were later integrated using software external to the platform.

For users, these anomalies are experienced in various ways, in particular in the slowness of downloads, receiving error codes when attempting to open a page, service interruptions, and inaccessible pages or features.

The teams that manage the website are taking all necessary measures to resolve the problems when they arise and to normalize the situation as soon as possible.

The City has taken several steps to address these problems:

  • Deleting outdated content and removing content
  • Modifying the hosting service in order to stabilize the site, better manage Web traffic and eliminate slow loading
  • Increase the hosting space available to support the site’s volume and its components
  • Carry out software updates
  • Delete software that was no longer useful and replace any software that was no longer being updated

New website

All of these actions have made it possible to keep the site active until the City’s new website is ready to launch. The City is issuing a call for tenders to overhaul and create a new website. Starting in 2024, the Communications Department, in collaboration with the other municipal departments and the chosen supplier, will oversee the creation of the new platform.

In the meantime, please be assured that the Communications Department and our webmasters are taking all the necessary steps to minimize the impact on users.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
