The City’s Automated Alert System allows you to receive important information based on your interests and preferences, as well as alerts during emergency situations.

Sign up for City alerts and notifications

By creating an account in Citizen eSpace, you can choose the topics for which you would like to receive communications from the City.

You can update your preferences at any time from your account.

Were you registered with the City’s previous alert system?

If you were registered with the City’s previous alert system, you will continue to receive emergency alerts only.

To customize the communications you receive and access the other features available, you must create a new account in Citizen eSpace.

Your registration with the previous alert system does not allow you to select other alert categories or access the services available through Citizen eSpace.

Don’t have an email address?

If you would like to register for the Automated Alert System but do not have an email address, contact the City at 514-630-1200. We can assist you with the registration process.

Choose the alerts and notifications you would like to receive

From your Citizen eSpace account, you can choose the topics for which you would like to receive communications and update your preferences as needed.

Emergencies (mandatory)

Receive information about urgent situations that may affect the community, such as heat waves, flooding, major power outages, severe winds and thunderstorms, exceptional storms, boil-water advisories, or any other urgent situation.

Waste and recycling collection

Receive notifications about collection delays, reminders about upcoming collections during the month, special collections and schedule changes.

Water and waterworks

Receive information about water main breaks, boil-water advisories, water shutoffs, water discolouration, sewer cleaning, fire hydrant cleaning and water meter readings.

Roadwork, parks and public spaces

Stay informed about work and interventions that may affect your travel or surroundings, including roadwork and traffic disruptions, construction sites and signage, work in parks, tree and horticultural work, work at the boat launch, lighting work and stormwater management interventions.

Parking Information

Receive communications about the Parking Information System, including its activation and end of season, as well as daily authorization or prohibition of street parking.

Citizen Services

Receive practical information about municipal services, hours and closures, holidays, unexpected service interruptions, reminders about tax payments, extensions and Council meeting schedules.

Recreation, Culture and Events

Stay informed about registration periods, program launches, major events, and event changes or cancellations.

News and press releases

Receive news published by the City on its website, press releases, new initiatives, public consultations and organizational updates.

Navigation Conditions

Receive information about navigation conditions through the flag system, which indicates whether conditions are favourable or unfavourable for going out on the water.

How will you receive alerts?

Depending on the preferences selected in your Citizen eSpace account, communications may be sent through different channels, including email, text message, telephone call or, eventually, a notification on your smartphone.

Make sure your contact information is up to date so you can receive communications through the channels you have selected.

Note: The mobile version of Citizen Space will soon be available as an app for your smartphone. Once available, the app will offer an additional way to access Citizen eSpace and receive notifications.
