Grants and Financial Assistance for Renovation Work

The City of Pointe-Claire’s Financial Assistance Program for Sustainable Stormwater Management on Residential Properties supports certain projects aimed at improving stormwater management. If your project is not eligible for this assistance, other measures offered by various organizations may help reduce the costs.

When planning future work, before beginning any renovations or applying for permits, check whether grants or financial assistance programs are available for the project you wish to complete.

Below is a non-exhaustive list of programs offered by the governments of Quebec and Canada, Hydro-Québec, the Montréal agglomeration and other organizations. These resources may help finance projects related to flood protection, climate change adaptation, energy efficiency and home improvements.

Flood Protection and Climate Change Adaptation

Rénoclimat – Adaptation

Status: Coming October 1, 2026

The new Rénoclimat component aims to support certain projects that help better protect homes from the impacts of climate change, including risks related to water infiltration and heavy rainfall events.

Status: Seasonal program offered every year from October 1 to March 31

A seasonal program for low-income households that provides free personalized advice and minor work to improve home comfort and energy efficiency during the winter season.

Conversion from Natural Gas Heating to Dual Energy

Status: Available

Homeowners whose property is currently heated with natural gas may receive financial assistance to convert their central heating system to a dual-energy system combining electricity and natural gas. This solution helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions while allowing homeowners to benefit from Hydro-Québec’s advantageous electricity rate during certain periods.

CMHC Eco Improvements

Status: Available

The CMHC Eco Improvements program allows eligible homeowners to receive a partial refund of their mortgage loan insurance premium when they complete energy-efficient renovations in a recently purchased home.

To qualify, the mortgage must be insured by CMHC and the renovations must represent at least $20,000 in eligible energy-efficient improvements, such as insulation work, heating system upgrades or the installation of renewable energy systems.

This program provides a home energy evaluation and financial assistance for improvements such as insulation, air sealing, replacement of doors and windows, and upgrades to mechanical systems.

Home Adaptation Program (PAD) – Société d’habitation du Québec

Status: Coming August 12, 2026

This program provides financial assistance to homeowners to complete renovations that adapt a home to the needs of individuals with a functional limitation or disability. Eligible work may include improving access to the home and increasing safety in essential living areas.

Commerce-Montréal: Grants for Commercial Building and Storefront Renovations

Status: Applications accepted until August 31, 2026

Business owners and commercial tenants located in the Montréal agglomeration may receive financial assistance to carry out renovations to commercial spaces or buildings. The program aims to support business modernization and projects that promote a more sustainable and environmentally responsible economy.

Owners and tenants of commercial buildings in the Montréal agglomeration can receive financial assistance to carry out work that improves universal accessibility. The program supports projects that remove barriers to access, improve indoor circulation and make washroom facilities more accessible for customers with reduced mobility.

Disaster Support

Financial Assistance Following a Flood or Other Disaster

Status: Based on events recognized by the Government of Quebec

This program provides financial assistance of last resort to homeowners, tenants, businesses and other individuals affected by a disaster recognized by the Government of Quebec.

Assistance is available only for events recognized by the Government of Quebec. Eligible municipalities affected areas and eligibility requirements are determined for each event. 

In the event of flooding, the water must result from the overflow of a nearby watercourse. As a result, Pointe-Claire residents may not be eligible depending on the circumstances.
