LED street lights: An ecological and economical solution!

In 2021, the City of Pointe-Claire embarked on a process to modernize its street lighting system with light-emitting diode (LED) technology and a smart lighting management system (SLMS).

Since the adoption of this environmentally friendly project, 3,727 LED lighting systems have been installed throughout the City. According to the Guaranteed Energy Savings Reconciliation Report, produced in May 2024 by Énergère, the lighting conversion generated a significant decrease of 887,780 kWh in the City’s electricity consumption over a one-year period. In Quebec, this energy saving is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 40 single-family homes.

Moreover, LED streetlights also represent an economic advantage, with a reduction in expenditure of $101,810.57 this year.

In order to achieve its initial objective, the City of Pointe-Claire is continuing its projects to install LED street lights. Street lighting is a key factor in safety, attractiveness and cost savings. By deploying new technologies such as LED and smart control, we are seeking to optimize municipal management tools, reduce operating costs and enhance our residents’ quality of life.
