At-the-door collection of refrigerators and other refrigeration appliances

Published on June 6, 2025 to 9:49 a.m.

Starting June 9, 2025, residents of Pointe-Claire can take advantage of a new, free at-home collection service for old refrigerators, freezers, wine coolers, and cellars, by the non-profit GoRecycle.

This service aims to facilitate the disposal of refrigerating appliances and ensure they are recycled responsibly in Quebec.

In Pointe-Claire, these items can't simply be placed at the curb for regular garbage pickup. Instead, you need to arrange for them to be collected by the city's designated services or take them to an ecocentre.

Please note that air conditioners, water coolers, and dehumidifiers are not accepted. These items must still be taken to an ecocentre.

How to use this service?

  1. Visit GoRecycle.com/collecte
  2. Fill out the online form to book a pickup date.
  3. Ensure that the appliance completely empty.
  4. Place it outside your home, close to your door. It is important to not place it on the sidewalk or curb to reduce the risk of it being picked up by informal scrap collectors. It's also crucial to remove the doors or tie them shut to prevent children from getting trapped.
  5. Once scheduled, GoRecycle will pick it up on the selected date.

Each improperly disposed fridge can emit up to 1 tonne of greenhouse gases. By participating, you’re making a big difference.

GoRecycle is a certified non-profit organization recognized by RECYC-QUÉBEC and ensures proper recycling of more than 95% of materials in collected appliances.
