Presbytery

2 Sainte-Anne Avenue. Construction in 1848 and transformation in 1913

The current presbytery is built on the same site as the previous building erected in 1705. The latter, whose main purpose at the time was to house the parish priest, also served as a place of worship and hosted major religious events until the construction of the first church in 1713. Requiring significant repairs, the old presbytery was replaced in 1848 by a more spacious and functional construction, in neoclassical style. The structure was modified in 1913 according to the plans of architect Théo Daoust: a new floor, dormers, skylights, and pyramidal ornaments were added. These works gave the building a castle-like appearance typical of the Quebec clerical residence architecture of the time.

Although work carried out in 1954 removed the cornice moldings and other decorative elements, the exterior appearance of the presbytery retains one of the most original looks in the eclectic Quebec landscape.
