Helpful advice
Keeping an eye on your home
When you leave home to go on holiday, or for any other reason, it’s a good idea to ask a trusted neighbour to keep on eye on your home.
A neighbour, friend or relative can also help you by looking after the upkeep of your home while you are away. As a citizen, you have an obligation to comply with City by-laws, including those regarding the length of your grass or snow piled up on your property. If your neighbour notices any suspicious or unusual activity while you are away, he or she can alert emergency services by calling 9-1-1.
Protecting your vehicle
- Always lock your vehicle.
- Never leave your keys inside a vehicle.
- Put valuables in the trunk rather than on the seat or where people can see them.
- Consider the possibility of having your vehicle marked.
