Community Treasure Hunt

A new event to give a second life to still-useful items. Leave your treasures at the curb or go treasure hunting in your neighbourhood for hidden gems.

The Community Treasure Hunt invites residents to give away items that are still in good condition but no longer needed. On the day of the event, participants place their items at the curb so they can be picked up free of charge by other members of the community.

To make treasure hunting easier, the City will publish a map showing participating addresses and the categories of items available. For this reason, residents wishing to offer items must register.

When does the treasure hunt take place?

The first edition of the Community Treasure Hunt will take place on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

What if some treasures are left behind?

Items that do not find a new home may be set out for the bulky waste collection scheduled for July 8, 2026, or disposed of through the appropriate collection programs.

Please note that certain items, such as toys, are not accepted as bulky waste. To find out how to properly dispose of your items, consult our search by material tool or the different collection services offered.

Want to explore treasures around the neighbourhood?

An interactive map showing participating addresses and the categories of items available at each location will be posted online a few days before the event to help residents discover the best treasures across the city.

All items are offered on a first come, first served basis.

The map will be available starting June 30.

Why participate in the treasure hunt?

In addition to delighting treasure hunters, this initiative helps reduce waste and avoid landfill disposal by giving a second life to useful items that are still in good condition.

The Community Treasure Hunt is based on the principles of the 4Rs:

  • Reduce at the source
  • Reuse
  • Recycle
  • Recover

More specifically, giving away items that are still useful supports the principles of source reduction and reuse. When items are reused by others, we help extend their lifespan and reduce the need to produce new goods and consume additional raw materials.

Why bury our treasures when we can give them a second life?
