Message from the Mayor – Heavy Rainfall Event of June 20, 2026
Dear residents,
Over the past few days, our community has once again been deeply affected by an exceptionally heavy rainfall event. I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you personally, on behalf of City Council and myself, as we face the impact of yet another major weather event affecting homes across our City.
We recognize that the challenges caused by these repeated incidents extend far beyond property damage. They bring disruption, uncertainty, emotional strain, and exhaustion for individuals and families alike. Please know that we are fully aware of the hardship many of you are experiencing, and that our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.
While our municipal teams, volunteers, and emergency services partners have worked tirelessly to support affected residents, I have been equally inspired by the response of our community. Throughout this difficult period, I have witnessed countless acts of generosity and neighbourly support, from residents offering assistance to those in need, to sharing fans, sump pumps, and other resources with fellow citizens facing challenges. These acts of solidarity are a powerful reminder of the resilience and compassion that define Pointe-Claire.
Please know that our teams remain fully mobilized to support residents through the recovery process. Since Tuesday, municipal crews have been working throughout the territory to collect flood-related debris, and additional special collections have been added to support ongoing cleanup efforts. These collections will continue this Saturday and in the coming weeks to ensure residents have every opportunity to dispose of items and materials damaged by the flooding. Up-to-date information is available in the Notices and Alerts section of the City's website and will continue to be updated as needed.
While significant work remains ahead, the City continues to move forward with the actions needed, supported by significant financial investments, to strengthen Pointe-Claire’s resilience to heavy rainfall and flooding. Since November, this work has included information sessions for residents, ongoing collaboration with the École de technologie supérieure on a new stormwater management plan, the launch of redevelopment work in Terra-Cotta Natural Park, including the construction of the berm and sponge park representing an investment of more than $2 million, the launch of the D’Ivanhoe Crescent Avenue reconstruction project, and continued monitoring and preventive maintenance of the infrastructure network.
Starting July 8, residents will also have access to a financial assistance program for rainwater retention and absorption measures on private properties. This initiative will soon be accompanied by an advisory service with experts to help residents identify flood-mitigation measures tailored to the specific characteristics of their homes.
To support these efforts and help secure the long-term implementation of future projects, the City has also submitted applications for funding from provincial and federal government programs dedicated to stormwater management and climate resilience, as part of its continued capital investment planning efforts.
This work is part of a long-term commitment to reduce vulnerability, support residents, and build a more resilient Pointe-Claire.
John Belvedere
Mayor of Pointe-Claire
