Creation of a Sponge Park at Terra-Cotta Natural Park
The City of Pointe-Claire would like to inform residents that sponge park construction work will be carried out at Terra-Cotta Natural Park, along Terra-Cotta and Belmont avenues. The work will begin on June 8 and continue until the end of October.
During this period, Belmont Avenue will be closed to traffic between the two intersections of Saddlewood Avenue. The bike path will also be closed for the duration of the work. A detour will be in place via Westfield and Saddlewood avenues.
In addition, the soccer field will be closed for the duration of the work.
What is a sponge park?
A sponge park can temporarily retain and absorb water during heavy rainfall until the system can absorb it.
The purpose of this work is to:
- create a bioretention basin to collect water during heavy rains by lowering and reprofiling the park to reduce overflows from the stormwater system;
- build long mounds, using the soil excavated from Belmont Avenue, in order to slow the flow of water coming from Terra-Cotta Avenue;
- create a ditch and water retention basin upstream of the homes in the area.

Thank you for your cooperation.
