Major Work on Water Main Work: Closure of Cartier Avenue, Reduced Pressure and Possible Water Discolouration

Published on December 19, 2025 to 10:00 a.m.

The City of Pointe-Claire has been informed that the City of Montréal will carry out water system improvement work beginning on January 5, 2026.

As a result of this work, Cartier Avenue will be completely closed between Lanthier Avenue and Du Bord-du-Lac–Lakeshore Road, from January 12 to February 9.

Reduced Drinking Water Pressure and Possibility of Discoloured Water

From January 5 to February 2, reduced water pressure could be experienced in the following areas:

  • Between Hymus Boulevard and Maywood, Douglas-Shand and Stillview avenues
  • At the boundaries of Beaconsfield and Kirkland, as well as Creswell Street and Saint-Charles Boulevard

Access to Facilities and Shops

During the work, access to shops, the refrigerated skating oval, located between Du Bord-du-Lac–Lakeshore Road and Cartier Avenue and the curling club will be maintained.

Traffic and Detours

During this period, detour routes will be set up via Lourdes and Lanthier avenues, as well as Victoria and Marie-Anne avenues.

Motorists are asked to stay alert and reduce their speed to ensure the safety of workers on site.

Parking

The municipal parking lot at the intersection of Lanthier and Cartier avenues, near the Pointe-Claire Lawn Bowling Club, is reserved exclusively for holders of a special permit issued by the City of Pointe-Claire.

Any vehicle in violation will be subject to a ticket.

Collections

Collections will take place according to the usual schedule. If your area is affected by the work:

  • Mark your bins with your address;
  • Put them in their usual place. The contractor will move them if necessary to allow for the collection to be conducted.

Discoloured Drinking Water: What to Do?

Variations in pressure can lead to temporary water discolouration. If you notice that your water is discoloured, run cold water until it becomes clear. It is recommended to avoid doing laundry during this time.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
