House Legault

105 du Bord-du-Lac – Lakeshore Road. Construction before 1760

Acquired at the beginning of the 19th century by Augustin Legault, a descendant of the soldier Noël Legaud dit Deslauriers, this property belonged to the Legault family for nearly 200 years.

Of Norman style, the Legault house features architectural characteristics that have been preserved over the years. Built piece by piece, it has fieldstone foundations and is adorned with two zigzag chimneys. Supported by a frame made of tree trunks, the gable roof and eaves are covered with cedar shingles. The exterior of the house hides architectural elements that have withstood the test of time. Inside, the tongue-and-groove plank floors, the ceilings with wide molded planks, the support beams, the fieldstone fireplace, the earthen basement, traces of an old bread oven, and the handmade ironwork are all remnants of another era.

Between 1941 and 1955, repair and restoration work allowed for the exterior to be covered with chamfered planks, the addition of a harp corner chain, and the construction of a rear annex.
